Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana Launches Winners Give Milk Drive and 2022 No One Runs on Empty Initiative with Support from Group 1001 and Gainbridge
Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana is once again on track to accelerate awareness of food insecurity throughout Central Indiana with the No One Runs on Empty initiative. The campaign, now in its third year, is funded by a $500,000 dollar gift from Group 1001, Gainbridge and backed by a partnership with Andretti Autosport and NTT INDYCAR SERIES driver Romain Grosjean. For the upcoming GMR Grand Prix, Grosjean will drive the No. 28 Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana/DHL Honda, which will display the Gleaners and Group 1001 logos, highlighting food insecurity, and drive the community to donate by texting MILK to 55433.
Joe Slater, Gleaners COO/CFO, noted that food insecurity affects many aspects of life, even for those who may not face the issue themselves.
“Food insecurity is a higher indicator than income for the prevalence of the top 10 chronic diseases and conditions facing Americans today,” Slater said. “Over half of the neighbors, we serve rate their overall health as fair or poor. That is unacceptable.”
Gleaners is taking action this year by focusing awareness and funding efforts around the lack of healthy dairy available to many neighbors facing food insecurity.
“Inflation is really taking a toll on people,” said Slater. “Dairy, and specifically milk, is a big need for the families we serve. It’s expensive, yet it provides so many nutrients needed for growing kids, and it supports bone health in adults which is particularly important for the seniors we serve.”

When the No. 28 car takes the green flag for the GMR Grand Prix, it will do more than just sport the Gleaners logo on the car. It will demonstrate a significant partnership and commitment to increasing the awareness of hunger issues throughout the racing community and beyond. No child can run on empty and learn. No parent can run on empty and work hard to provide for their family. No doctor or teacher or race car driver can be their best when a basic need is not being met.
