Malaysian Racer Weiron Tan Finishes on Podium at Streets of Toronto

(via Bernama Sports News )

This weekend saw Weiron Tan take to the streets of Toronto, Canada for rounds 10 and 11 of the Pro Mazda Championship.

Tan felt confident going into the first race of the weekend, after two promising practice sessions and clinching a starting position on row two but the young Malaysian was dragged into a lap one incident by another rider and did not complete the first race.

The final race of the weekend saw Tan back on track and take a well-deserved second place podium finish.

In a statement here, Tan said: "Race one was a disaster. I had a really good start and was third going into turn three, but then a car came flying by and collected me and we both went into the wall."

"That was the end of the race. The guys at Andretti Autosport worked all night to fix the car for the second race and I'm glad we were able to end on the podium and score some really good points to turn the weekend around.

"I really want to thank the team for the great job.

It's really important for us to be consistent in the points and I'm aiming to be back at the top in Iowa next month," he said.

Heavy rain saw a slight delay to the start of race 2 and left behind it a rain soaked track. Heading out on wet tyres, Tan had a good start and maintained his third position off the start-line.

A battle soon ensued out in front for the lead but the young Malaysian kept out of trouble and went cleanly into the first turn although the wet track soon claimed its first victim as the track came under caution for an incident mid-pack.

At the restart, the race leader had a poor getaway and the yellow flag period was extended, seeing Tan take advantage and go into second spot and go on to take second place and score vital points towards his championship campaign.

The next round of the Pro Mazda Championship will take place at the Iowa Speedway on July 17-18.
