Simona de Silvestro has been confirmed to pilot the No. 28 Amlin Andretti ATEC-01 all-electric racingmachine for Andretti Formula E Team in its second season of competition in the FIA Formula E Championship.

The Swiss fan favorite returns to the team after competing in the 99th Indianapolis 500 with Andretti Formula E’s Verizon IndyCar Series counterpart Andretti Autosport in May and most recently in the colours of technical partner, TE Connectivity, at the inaugural Formula E season finale – the London ePrix. Simona finished her maiden electric race just outside the points in P11 and concluded the double-header weekend with a solid twelfth-place finish in round eleven.

“I’m very pleased with the way Season 2 is looking for Andretti Formula E,” said Michael Andretti, namesake and owner for the Andretti Formula E Team. “Simona did a great job at the London ePrix with very limited time to prepare, with a full season we are confident in her abilities to take the the No. 28 Amlin Andretti car to the top of the podium.”

Amlin CEO Charles Philipps said, “Amlin are very excited to have Simona in the driving seat of the No. 28 Amlin Andretti ATEC-01 for Season 2, This is a very positive signing and aligns very well with our long term approach to business and our continued support for Formula E by partnering with the Andretti Formula E Team.”

“I’m happy to be joining the Andretti Formula E Team for this upcoming season,” said de Silvestro. “I’m really happy to be full time in a Championship again and to work with both Amlin and TE (Connectivity). Also looking forward to being part of developing the new Andretti Technologies powertrain and hope for a successful year with a great team.”

“We are excited to work with Simona again and see her return to the Andretti family,” added Amy Shah, Chief Marketing Officer of major sponsor TE Connectivity. “We look forward to watching her race in one of the ATEC-01 cars for Season 2. Simona continues to be one of the world’s most exciting drivers, and she is a great inspiration for girls and women all over the world who are interested in STEM fields. We look forward to a great season with Simona and the Andretti Formula E team.”

The second FIA Formula E Championship season commences with a series of two-day tests at FEH HQ, Donington Park circuit, UK, throughout August (10th and 11th, 17th and 18th, 24th and 25th). These official dates, open to media and fans alike, are the first opportunity to see the 10 teams that have entered the second edition of the championship (which is now open to technological competition between various powertrain constructors) go wheel to wheel on track.
