VARX Practice Report: LA

Red Bull Global Rallycross returns to Los Angeles with a brand new course layout and one of the largest fields of the season. This year's doubleheader at the Port of Los Angeles will go a long way towards determining this year's Supercar champion. The Los Angeles circuit features the crossover jump that Global Rallycross has not run since 2012. The new course features 13 turns and .702 miles of track around the beautiful Port of Los Angeles. Speed set the quickest lap for the day, while Foust posted the fourth fastest time in today's final practice session.

Live TV coverage of Global Rallycross Los Angeles can be found on NBC  at 4 p.m. ET this Sunday, or you can follow along on liveextra.nbcsports.com. Stay up to date on all things Andretti via AndrettiAutosport.com and @FollowAndretti.

SCOTT SPEED, NO. 41 MERCHANT FIRST BEETLE

“It was great to get out there today and show everyone what our cars can do. I think we are just now seeing what the Volkswagen Beetle can actually do and we made a big statement today. Both Tanner (Foust) and I were way quicker than the rest of the field. For the last five races, I think it is going to be on us to make no mistakes, have no mechanicals and run smooth races. Don’t count us out; we still have a chance to make up some good points."

TANNER FOUST, NO. 34 ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK BEETLE

"This is the first event that the Beetles have been running their full competition weight with the new system installed and everything seemed to be working in our favor. With the cars on an even page with the rest of the field, I think we were able to show some real speed. Qualifying went really well, Scott (Speed) was able to set the pace during the practice sessions, but I was able to etch him out in qualifying session one and two. It feels awesome; this is a track where qualifying well and winning heats in order to get good starting positions is going to be critical. That’s one successful night down and two more to go."
